Since the large catches of big bream we were reporting in the spring, the reports of any fish over double figures have been fairly thin on the ground. However, with the weather on the change it would appear the big bream have got their heads down and anglers are reaping the rewards for their efforts.

Dai Gribble needs no introduction when it comes to catching specimen fish, and he has once again been landing some truly special fish from a water that used to hold the British Record.

“I’ve been doing a bit of a bream campaign at Cop Mere in Staffordshire lately."

It’s a venue with history for the species, having held the British Record in the 1980s. Although it’s generally known for tench now, there are still a few big ones in here, albeit not many of them."

“Using a boat, I cleared an area of weed around 65 yards out and had some success from the spot, landing a few 13-pounders, one of 15lb 3oz, plus this fish of 15lb 13oz."

“The biggest one fell to a rubber corn hookbait, which I fished over a bed of Sonubaits Krill and Squid feed, plus a few tins of F1 corn.”

Another angler who has been catching some impressive bream is Ian Hannaby. After putting in time at a local gravel pit during his recent sessions, his efforts paid off when he landed four bream, with the largest tipping the scales at an impressive 13lb 13oz.

"I fished a 40-hour session on a pit I favour this time of year for specimen bream. As the weather starts to cool slightly, they just seem to come on the feed," Ian told us.

"I was fishing a gravel bar at around 70 yards, opting for natural baits. The water is heavily fished, so I wanted to offer the bream something different."

"I had a really productive session, landing four bream, including two 13lb fish, and even a rogue carp that gatecrashed the spot."

"Although I was fishing through the night, all the bream came during the day, which is quite common at this time of year, so don't overlook a day session."
